Hundreds of Blog Post Ideas for Writers

Hundreds of Blog Post Ideas for Writers offers an extensive list of blog posts full of blog post ideas, and inspiration, for writers who blog.

I’m frequently asked by writers and authors what they should blog about. Regularly writing for your blog does seem like an overwhelming task and if you’re new to it, it is likely to take a while until you get your sea legs (yes, another idiom!) and feel comfortable and confident doing so, but it definitely helps to have some inspiration.

Being a firm believer in not re-inventing the wheel, I thought it would just make sense to share some of the many existing articles on this topic with you. There is bound to be some overlap with ideas suggested in these articles, but combined I’m sure there are literally hundreds of ideas in this list. Enjoy!

So, without further adieu, and in no particular order, here’s a list of posts filled with hundreds of ideas, and inspiration, to get you writing those blog posts:

Do you know of another article that I should be adding to the list? Let me know in the comments.

    1. Thanks, Gary!

I may find myself referring back to this list on the days when the brain just isn’t functioning and I need to write a post! πŸ™‚

  1. I have been getting lots of ideas myself, mainly from the talks I have been doing at a library, and things that have been happening in the writing world that affect me. This has given me the idea to create a blog ‘idea’ sheet, so there won’t be sticky notes or bits of paper lying around all the time. Can be written on one sheet.

    1. Julie,

I have a notebook that I scribble ideas in as they come to me. I also have a spreadsheet. If I find a good website that would be helpful to other writers, I copy the URL to the xls. You could also just bookmark it in your browser as a favourite I suppose. I might never use half of these ideas but just having them on standby sure helps a lot, especially when it’s 10 o’clock at night and I just realized I haven’t done my blog post for the day! πŸ™‚

  2. I have been reading up a lot on exactly that subject all day today, so this is a great source. The thing for me is not really about what I could blog about, but what could I blog about *as an author*, since you do not want to sound like or be a ‘BUY ME’ blog πŸ˜‰
I somehow was under the impression, that the themes should be different than from a regular every day blog and turns out, it doesn’t have to bem which is a great relief.

Thank you for sharing these fantastic links, it sure helps a lot.

    1. Jessica,

‘BUY ME’ blogs turn people off. They’re a lot like telemarketers, aren’t they? So, in my opinion, great decision on your part to avoid that.

It’s a good idea not to stray too far off topic when you’re blogging because you do want to grow and keep an audience but there can still be a lot of sub-topics and related topics that you can cover. With a few ideas, a little imagination and a lot of persistence, a blog can thrive!

Glad this article was helpful. Can’t take too much credit for it, however, as all I did was round ’em up! πŸ˜‰
